SkillsUSA Kentucky is one of the largest student organizations in the Commonwealth, serving more than 3,500 students and instructors across middle school, high school, and postsecondary programs each year. It is the Kentucky chapter of SkillsUSA, a national nonprofit that has prepared students for careers in skilled trades and technical fields since 1965.
What Does SkillsUSA Kentucky Do?
SkillsUSA Kentucky connects students in Career Technical Education (CTE) programs with real-world competitions, leadership development opportunities, and pathways into high-demand careers. Students compete in over 100 trade categories — from welding and HVAC to cybersecurity, culinary arts, and healthcare — at the regional, state, and national level.
The organization is administered in Kentucky through the Kentucky Department of Education's Office of Career and Technical Education. Students are organized into chapters at area technology centers, high schools, and community colleges across the state.

The SkillsUSA Kentucky State Championships
Every spring, SkillsUSA Kentucky hosts its State Leadership and Skills Conference — a multi-day championship event where top competitors from across Kentucky face off in their trade categories. The 2026 event is scheduled for March 30–April 2 at the Crowne Plaza in Louisville. Winners advance to the national SkillsUSA Championships, which draws over 6,700 competitors annually.
Kentucky students who place at nationals often go on to secure apprenticeships, industry jobs, and college scholarships in their trade — all before graduating high school.

The Role of the KY SkillsUSA Foundation
The KY SkillsUSA Foundation, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides critical financial support to make SkillsUSA Kentucky programs possible. While SkillsUSA Kentucky is the organizing body, the Foundation supplies funding for student competition registrations, travel, uniforms, scholarships, and chapter incentives — costs that can otherwise prevent students from participating.
Founded in 2000 and granted 501(c)(3) status in 2024, the Foundation accepts tax-deductible donations from individuals, businesses, and foundations. Every dollar goes directly to supporting students — not administrative overhead.
